What is the Where2go Exchange?

The Where2go Exchange is a web based forum where merchants, collectors and enthusiasts come together to find and sell used, collectible or hard to find items. Unlike auction or classified ad sites, members of the Where2go Exchange post requests for items they are looking for. Other merchant members are then able to view these requests in real time, and respond if they have the item. All activity is conveniently categorized by market type, so you won't have to waste your time wading through postings unrelated to your business.

Here's an example of how the Where2go Exchange might be used:

A customer phones a small antique shop in New York looking for a 1st Edition Commemorative Elvis Plate. The shop owner does not have the item - being a somewhat rare piece, it was a one-in-a-thousand chance that she would. But rather then send the customer away to call every one of her competitors in town, she logs into her Where2go Exchange account and posts a request for the item. Later that morning, an Elvis memorabilia shop in California responds that he has three of the plates! A price is negotiated for the plate and it arrives two days later at her shop in New York. Both merchants have made a sale that otherwise would have never occurred, and the ecstatic customer goes home to tell all her friends about the best antique shop on the East Coast.

As you can see, the Where2go Exchange not only helps find items for your customers, it also finds customers for your items. Even if you are not monitoring the requests by merchants as they are posted in real time, you can search past request postings to see if there are any merchants interested in items that you have to sell. You can look as far back into the archives as you like.

How does it work?

All Where2go Exchange activity is performed through a web browser. As a result, the only thing a merchant needs to participate is a computer with an internet connection. If you know how the basics of surfing the web, you can use the Where2go Exchange. (NOTE: For best performance, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater is recommended)

All requests for items are sent to a central server where they can be accessed real time by other participating merchants. If a member wishes to respond to another merchant's request, with the click of the mouse they can compose a message and send it directly to them. The merchant is then notified in real time of their new message. All merchant to merchant communication occurs though the Exchange's internal messaging system, so your email address won't be available to anyone who could send you unsolicited garbage.

If two merchants wish to enter into a transaction for an item, it is done so outside of the Exchange. The price paid for the item, shipping methods, handling fees, etc. are all negotiated between the two parties prior to the sale. No commissions, percentages or any other fees will be charged to either party by the Where2go Exchange.

What types of businesses are using the Where2go Exchange?

The Where2go Exchange is the perfect tool for any business dealing in used, collectible or hard to find items. However, because a rare gun dealer would likely not be interested in receiving posts from a sports memorabilia shop, the Where2go Exchange is separated into market segments. Depending upon your membership level, you can participate in a single market or many at once.

Having a sufficient number of merchants using the system in any one market segment is critical to its effectiveness for its members. As a result, the Where2go Exchange is not activated for a given market segment until a "critical mass" can be achieved.

The current active market segments are:

The market segments being planned for rollout in the near future are:

Feedback from potential merchant members is very important in helping us determine expansion markets. If your business' market segment is not listed above, please let us know that you'd like to see it become available.

What are the different membership levels?

The Where2go Exchange currently offers three membership levels, Guest, Basic, and Premium. If you are unsure about which membership level to choose, don't worry, you can change your membership options at any time.

Guest
Our NO-COST guest account is designed for collectors looking to locate, but not sell items on the Where2Go Exchange. It gives you unlimited access to the realtime request viewer, unlimited searching of archived requests, and unlimited submission of new requests. This guest account DOES NOT enable users to reply to item requests.

Guest account features include:

Basic
Our entry level membership contains all the features you need to get started in the Where2go Exchange. It is recommended for most merchants. Its features include:

Premium
For merchants with a wider market scope, we offer our Premium membership package. It provides all the features available in our Basic membership, but adds access to UNLIMITED market segments. It's the perfect solution for merchants who buy and sell a wide array of items. A pawn shop, for example, would have access to the collectible coins market as well sports memorabilia market - both types of items are likely to be found in their shop, even though they are traded in different market segments. The shop owner saves the expense and hassle of having two separate Exchange memberships.

How much does it cost?

During the initial rollout phase of the Where2go Exchange, usage of the system is 100% FREE!

There are no additional fees for posting requests, responding to requests, or sending messages within the Where2go Exchange.

If two merchants wish to enter into a transaction for an item, it is done so outside of the Exchange. The price paid for the item, shipping methods, handling fees, etc. are all negotiated between the two parties prior to the sale.
